Abstract:The time span of technological realization to social realization is relevant to S&T&I strategy planning and assessment cycleBased on 726 pieces of technology data from the Japanese 9th Science and Technology Foresight, this paper finds that the time span is about 7 yearsBut difference exits in different technology areas, for those relevant to biotechnology, information technology, health technology, etc, the time span is slightly longer, while for those relevant to environment and infrastructure it is shorterCompared to single technology, the time span of some system technologies which integrate existing technologies seems shorterTherefore, government should take time span of technology cycle into consideration when formulating S&T&I policy, extend planning and assessing cycle, and pay more attention to the difference among technologies and the role of big companies.
