Leading Innovation:A New Paradigm of Innovation Management——Case study Based on Haier Group's Washing Machine Industrial Line(2013—2020)

Abstract:This paper analyzes the innovation practice of Haier Group's washing machine industry line during the network stage (2013—2020),and attempts to answer the question “how to achieve leading innovation”in theory based on the existing “innovation leading”research,responsible innovation and meaningful innovation.It is the core of the leading innovation theoretical paradigm.The case study found that the decision-making mechanism,innovation strategy selection mechanism,management mechanism and organization flexibility mechanism are the key mechanisms for the latecomer firms to achieve leading innovation in the process of “Beyond Catching-up”.①The paper puts forward the Leading Innovation View,which is not limited to short-term performance,adheres to long-term principle,user-centered,and focuses on industry pain points.②The paper constructs the concept of leading innovation from three aspects:ideological basis,market basis and decision-making system.③The paper discusses the innovation strategy selection mechanism of leading innovation,that is,dynamic open innovation mode and systematic R&D strategy.④The paper summarizes the management mechanism of leading innovation,including leadership mechanism,learning mechanism and coordination mechanism.⑤The paper discusses the organization flexibility mechanism.
