Does Innovation Promote the Mass Entrepreneurship:Evidence from the Statistical Data of Microscopic Investigation and Prefecture-Level Cities in China

Abstract:Mass entrepreneurship and innovation are the most significant events in Chinese comprehensive implementation of the innovation-driven.As the first driving force for development,whether innovation has a direct impact on mass entrepreneurship is worthy of attention.Based on the Chinese household income investigation 2013 and statistical data of prefecture-level cities in China,this paper employs logit models to examine the effects of regional innovation capabilities on the residents' choice for entrepreneurial decision-making.It reveals the followings.First,innovation capability has a significant positive impact on residents' entrepreneurship decision-making in general.Second,innovation capability has a positive and significant effect on opportunity entrepreneurship,but has no significant effect on survival entrepreneurship.Third,invention patent innovation has a significant positive impact on both opportunity entrepreneurship and survival entrepreneurship,design patent innovation has a significant positive impact on opportunity entrepreneurship,whereas utility model patent innovation has no significant impact on opportunity entrepreneurship and survival entrepreneurship.
