Abstract:The paper used grounded theory to conduct an exploratory analysis of the motivations in the formation of Research Joint Ventures (RJVs)and how to drive industry transformation and upgrading.Based on theoretical analysis,the paper set up a theoretical model to analyze the effect and mechanism of RJVs on industrial transformation and upgrading.We find that RJVs drive industrial transformation and upgrading through three synergistic paths of knowledge chain,value chain,and innovation chain,which are divided into absorption-type RJVs,catch-up-type RJVs,and innovation-type RJVs,acting in the primary,shaped nucleus,and diversified transformation and upgrading stages of industries in National Innovation Demanstration Zone (NIDZ).Combining two typical cases of Zhongguancun NIDZ and Shanghai Zhangjiang NIDZ,we further reveal the mechanism and characteristics of RJVs driving the industrial transformation and upgrading of NIDZ.
