Abstract:Gene editing can knock out, insert and replace target genes in the plant genomes accurately, which has great potential in crop breeding.Based on current progress in crops genome editing, the role of scientists in science communication was analyzed from the perspective of social responsibility and the impact of public understanding of science on the research and development of genome-edited crops. On account of the practical obstacles faced by scientists in public conversation, suggestions for capacity building for scientists to do better in the participation of public understanding of genome-edited crops were put forward, such as strengthening the awareness of scientists to their social responsibilities, building teams for science communication, and establishing a scientific mechanism of capacity improvement for scientists.
