Spatial Spillover Effects of Innovation Capabilities of the Countries Along the Belt and Road

Abstract:Taking the 50 countries along the Belt and Road as examples from 2007—2017,this study combines geospatial analysis with a spatial panel model to explore the spatial structure and spatial spillover effects of innovation capabilities along the countries.The results show that:The innovative capacity of countries along the Belt and Road is generally on the rise.There are high-high clusters with developed countries as the core,and the low-low clustering mainly in Southeastern Europe,Central Asia and North East Asia.The development of innovation capabilities along the countries is mainly driven by capital and supplemented by labor drivers.Senior talents are spilling over to the countries with strong innovation capabilities.There are role models and reference effects in R&D capital investment in various countries' innovation capabilities.The development of innovative capabilities in the countries has a certain lock-in feature on the capital element,and the influence of labor factors on innovation ability is characterized by increasing from west to east.
