Abstract:To empirically analyse the effect of industrial robots on employment,we use the unbalanced panel data of IFR and World Bank from 1991 to 2017.We find that industrial robots have significant positive effect on labor market, which is the promotion of employment at the national level. In different economic development periods, however, the industrial robots have heterogeneous effects, and the promotion effect is much larger in the lower income countries. The effect of robots on industrial employ ment is less than that on the services, and the effects on female is much than that on male.Overall, the industrial robots will promote employment by increasing jobs, instead of replacing labor and leading to unemployment.
