Abstract:The nomination of a scientist for a Nobel Prize is a prerequisite for the award. How can a scientist be nominated for a Nobel Prize? This is not only a practical problem, but also a basic theoretical problem in the evaluation of science and technology. This paper takes the nominators and nominees of the Nobel Prize in physics from 1901 to 1950 as an example to study the effects of relative academic level and research collaboration on the probability of scientists being nominated for the Nobel Prize. From the scientometrics and the sociology of Science, this paper analyzes the characteristics of the scientific evaluation of the Nobel Prize and puts forward the theoretical proposition, and uses the Probit regression model to test empirically. Finally,QAP multiple regression analysis was used to test the robustness. The results show that Nobel prize nominators are more likely to nominate scientists with higher(relative)academic level than themselves, and the scientific cooperation between scientists and Nobel Prize nominators is conducive to the nomination of scientists for the Nobel Prize.
