Construction of Enterprise Innovation Ecosystem Based on Core Competency:A Case Study of CIMC

Abstract:More and more evidence shows that innovation ecosystem is an important way for enterprises to win long-term competition.How to crack the code of the success of the leading enterprise innovation ecosystem and obtain innovation performance? We start from the perspective of core competence and focus on the case study of China International Marine Containers (Group)Ltd. (CIMC)to explain this problem.Firstly,based on core competence,a mechanism model of enterprise innovation ecosystem construction is formed by using the grounded theory research method.Secondly,from the perspective of core competency,we analyze the motivation and construction process of enterprise innovation ecosystem,and analyze the role of enterprise innovation ecosystem embedded with core competency in improving innovation performance.The results show the followings.①The enterprise with technology leading ability and resource integration ability can form the motivation to construct the enterprise innovation ecosystem which is driven by the innovation motivation and innovation willingness.②Cultivating a healthy ecosystem requires strengthening the core competency of enterprises,and achieving symbiosis among system participants through modular thinking.③The construction of enterprise innovation ecosystem based on core competency is the key path to promote enterprises to achieve innovation performance,and it provides reference for traditional manufacturing enterprises to construct self-led innovation ecosystem.The conclusion of this study provides a window of opportunity for the future continuous study of the enterprise innovation ecosystem.
