Innovation Behavior and the Duration of Export Competitiveness of China's Manufacturing Industry

Abstract:Based on the CEPII-BACI trade data from 2001 to 2018,the Cox duration model was used to examine the impact of innovation on the duration of China's manufacturing export competitiveness.The study found that:Firstly,the innovation behavior could effectively improve the duration of manufacturing export competitiveness.1% increase in R&D would reduce the risk of decline in manufacturing export competitiveness by 9.3%.1% increase in the intensity of innovation could increase the duration of manufacturing export competitiveness by 6.4%.Secondly,the innovation investment helps to ease the financing constraints of the industry,so as to improve the dynamic stability of export competitiveness.At the same time,the increase of industry scale and capital intensity reduces the improvement effect of innovation investment and innovation quality on the duration of manufacturing export competitiveness,but enhances the risk release ability of innovation intensity and innovation quantity to the decline of manufacturing export competitiveness.Therefore,policy makers should focus on improving the quality of innovation and the efficiency of factor allocation.in order to better achieve the high-quality and stable growth of China's manufacturing exports.
