Abstract:This article adopts a case study method to select two listed companies that were listed on the ChiNext in the same year, with similar industries, both highlighted by patents when listed and had a large number of patent applications after listing, but their business performance was completely different after several years. Comparative studies have shown that patents can significantly improve business performance if they can be used in production and can improve product quality or reduce costs. On the contrary, if there are patents that are not used in production, or if they are used in production but cannot improve product quality and cost competitiveness, it will not only fail to improve the company's business performance, but may even reduce it. It is not a good idea for companies to lie down under the monopoly protection of existing patents. Continuously developing new patented technologies and investing in new R&D, forming new patents, achieving a spiral increase in R&D, patents, performance and R&D, is a good circle of innovation.
