Abstract:China is accelerating the establishment of a “dual circulation”development pattern in which domestic economic cycle plays a leading role while international economic cycle remains its extension and supplement.Basic research and applied research is the cornerstone of the production and transformation of universities, and the key to promoting scientific and technological innovation and achievements in universities. This thesis selects the scientific and technological statistics of universities in 23 provinces in China from 2000 to 2021 and the fixed-effect model was used to explore the relationship between basic research investment, applied research investment,industry-university cooperation network, international exchange network and innovation performance. The study found that the investment in basic research and applied research in universities positively promote innovation performance.Industry-university cooperation network positively moderates the relationship between investment in basic research and innovation performance;International exchange network positively moderates the relationship between basic research investment and innovation performance, but weakens the relationship between applied research investment and innovation performance. The research has certain reference value for guiding universities to strengthen original innovation, optimize R&D investment structure, promote deep integration of industry and academia and integrate into the dual circulation development pattern.
