Research on the Impact of Artificial Intelligence Technology on the Global Value Chain Position of the Manufacturing Industry:An Empirical Analysis Based on AI Patent Data

Abstract:The development of artificial intelligence can bring new competitive advantages to the global value chain position of China's manufacturing industry.Using panel data from Chinese provincial manufacturing industries from 2010 to 2022,this study empirically examines the impact of AI technology advancement on the global value chain position of China's manufacturing sector.The research finds that AI technology significantly enhances the global value chain position of manufacturing during the sample period,and this conclusion remains valid after addressing endogeneity and conducting robustness checks.The effect of AI technology on the global value chain position of manufacturing shows notable regional heterogeneity,with more significant effects in China's eastern regions and provinces with higher levels of openness.Mechanism analysis reveals that AI technology indirectly improves the global value chain position of manufacturing by promoting technological innovation and industrial upgrading.Spatial effect analysis indicates that AI technology has a significant spatial spillover effect on the global value chain position of manufacturing.
