Empirical Study on Spin-off Capabilities of Research Universities in China

Abstract：University Spin-off Company is the effective model of technology transfer and thus to promote regional economic development,university spin-off capability is directly related to the number and development performance of spin-off companies.We used ST and school-run enterprises data of 31 “985 Project” universities in 2009 to make the factor analysis for decomposing university s spin-off capability and ranking 31 research universities,then made the correlation and regression analysis and got the following conclusions.University spin-off capabilities include capability of RD,capability of ST output and its application,technology trading volume and the comprehensive strength of university incubator.University research funding is closely related to its spin-off capability,basic research and applied research in university have the complementary effect on spin-off capability,the comprehensive strength of university incubator has a significant role in promoting ST-based companies spin-off.Finally,we proposed policy suggestions to enhance the university spin-off capability.
