Abstract:Based on the trade data of China exporting to 40 trade partners in 1996—2013,the paper uses the gravity model,to exam the effect of intellectual property rights protection on the extensive and intensive margins of China's export. The regression results indicate that the effect of intellectual property rights protection on China's export margins is significantly positive and the effect on the intensive trade margin is far more than it on the extensive margin. At the disaggregate industry level, the effect of intellectual property rights protection on the export margins of low-tech and high-tech industries is more significant. At the country level, the effect of intellectual property rights protection on the margins of low-tech and high-tech industries that was exported to the developed countries is far more than that was exported to the developing countries
