How to Reduce the Client's Knowledge Protection in Offshore IT Outsourcing: A Social Exchange Theory Perspective

Abstract:Based on the social exchange theory,the effects of knowledge gap,client's dependence on supplier and value identification on reduction of the client's knowledge protection and the influence of knowledge protection on the supplier's knowledge acquisition quality are studied.The study proposes 4 hypotheses,and 180 offshore IT outsourcing project data are collected to test the hypotheses.The results show that the client's knowledge protection reduces the supplier's knowledge acquisition quality from its client,and knowledge gap has an inverted U-shaped relationship with the client's knowledge protection,client's dependence on supplier and value identification significantly reduce the client's knowledge protection
