Abstract:It is the key to select model for transforming patent from university to market.The paper considered four characteristics of patent:patent technology quality,patent technology maturity,complementary assets,commercial and technology uncertainty.We related these characteristics to the selection of three basic transformation models.Analyzing 168 patents which have transformed,we find patent technology characteristics do have an impact on the model selection.When the patent technology quality is poor,it is more likely to start-up and transfer.When the patent technology is more mature,it is more likely to be transferred or licensed to the existing enterprises.Complementary assets and uncertainties have no direct evidence to prove the hypothesis.However,reducing the cost of special assets,as well as the risk of market and technology uncertainty,the company has a better response to the strategic alliance
